Meet the Teachers:

Jennifer Campbell-Overbeeke
A dancer, swimmer and general explorer since I could walk I found my way on to the mat for the first time in college circa 2004.
After years of dealing with a aggressive case of Crohn’s disease my once strong body felt broken. In yoga I found both the space to work through my edges when I felt well and to sit with the breath when I didn’t. Transcending a physical act, yoga became the fabric of my healing process. A full time teacher and student of Hatha yoga I teach everything from a Hatha inspired Vinyasa flow to deeply healing and nourishing Restorative and Yin Yoga. My yang style is an intelligent and embodied mix of fluid yet powerful flow and intentionally placed stillness. I challenge students to explore physical and mental edges with perseverance, faith and a heaping side of humor! There is a potency to what I teach because I practice diligently to embody it. Let’s explore the shadow and light together!“The prudent (or spiritual-minded) person attains success through faith; none other can succeed. It should be practiced with care and perseverance.” Siva Samhita 3.16

Brett Williamsbrett

After 14 years of practice and 10 years of teaching yoga my intention is clear. Mostly, I hope to inspire people through yoga. I teach a wide range of styles, but consistently aim to use our own stillness to provide, inform and balance. I came to yoga through a dissatisfaction of western philosophy. I landed in yoga's practical application of the theoretical and the possible... I'd like to thank my teachers (my first) Luna Delgado, (my ashtanga) Larry Schultz, (my meditation) Baba Hari Dass and (my integration) Gillian St Clair.

nikki-flier-1 edit rsTreat yourself to 8 days and 7 nights on the stunningly beautiful island of Dominica, where Nikki and Jillian will help you to relax and rejuvenate during this week-long vinyasa immersion at Jungle Bay. Two yoga classes will be offered daily in Jungle Bay's 2,400 foot yoga studio which offers spectacular ocean views. Each morning will begin with a 2-hour class that has a workshop like format: plan to explore a wide range of topics such as the mechanics of proper backbending, the art of arm balancing, wise transitions in Surya Namaskar A and B, bandha practice, or the shoulder girdle alignment necessary to keep any vinyasa junkie healthy. The afternoons can be spent as you choose: hiking throughout Dominica's lush tropical forests, snorkeling in the warm bubbles of Champagne Beach, visiting the Spa du Soleil, relaxing with your feet up at the volcanic stone swimming pool, or taking a siesta in a hammock. Early evening classes will be more of the lunar flow variety, where the intellect of the morning session will be woven into a sweet flow that will leave you feeling sublime. Finish the day breaking bread ocean side and listening to the soothing sounds of the rainforest as you retire to your tropical hardwood cottage perched high above the water.

Nikki Viella has been practicing for fourteen years and teaching for the past ten. She is a senior teacher at Kula Yoga Project in NYC and is the co-owner of Kula Williamsburg in her home borough of Brooklyn, NY. As a teacher, her goal is to weave precise physical movement, intelligence, and intention into one sweaty, uplifting experience. Admittedly a movement junkie, she also firmly believes that in the silence of “not doing,” in a space that does not harbor our habitual distractions; we can begin to know how we truly feel and begin to see things more clearly. It is the juxtaposition of these opposites that she tries to blend seamlessly into her Kula Flow classes. This will be Nikki’s 7th trip to visit her Jungle Bay family, a group of remarkable people that she holds close to her heart.

Jillian 1Jillian is a senior teacher at Kula Yoga Project whose priority is to teach from her own experience and to offer that what moves her in the practice – to create space and ease in the body in order to expand the space in our lives. She believes that what we do, and how we approach our bodies serves as a larger metaphor for how we lead our lives. The embodiment of pleasure and the avoidance of pain are the greatest motivators for change and transformation and because of that, we practice. In addition to teaching and practicing Kula Flow for the past several years, Jillian’s studies have included years of Anusara yoga and therapeutics, as well as Iyengar Yoga and meditation. These influences have shaped Jillian’s teaching into a unique blend of detailed alignment cues coupled with original and creative sequencing. Known for her keen eye in identifying the origin of her students’ injuries and discomfort in their bodies, Jillian is sought out for her direct, clear, and informative approach to teaching and therapeutics.

Accommodations, 2 yoga classes daily, 3 gourmet mostly vegetarian meals a day, airport transfers, 2 onsite excursions/activities, evening presentations on some nights, as well as government taxes.

This package does not include the cost of airfare, spa treatments, or additional excursions.

Unplugged + Off the Grid: Yoga + Hiking Retreat in Dominica, the “Nature Island” of the Caribbean with Petra Ledkovsky + Terry Cockburn March 26 to April 2, 2016

Dominica Image 1Escape the chilly New England Spring to pristine and magical Dominica for a week of deep exploration, relaxation, and reflection. The independent English-speaking island nation of Dominica (pronounced dom-en-EE-ka, and definitely not to be confused with the Dominican Republic) is characterized by rugged rainforest, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, coral reefs, and dramatic rocky shoreline. While you will not find so many white sandy beaches here, what you will discover is an island intentionally undisturbed by mass tourism, rich in culture, and spectacular natural beauty.

While on retreat at the ecologically sustainable Jungle Bay Resort your days will include vitalizing morning and quieting evening yoga sessions led by Petra and Terry, as well as plenty of hiking, swimming, snorkeling, guided cultural excursions and three gourmet meals a day. Your itinerary allows plenty of time for rest and relaxation by the pool, a nap in your hammock, or therapeutic massage at the Jungle Bay spa.

You will sleep in harmony with nature in beautiful wooden cottages, with semi-outdoor private showers, and wood furnishings all “designed and built” at the resort. The accommodations are a combination of rustic and elegance, elevated on wooden posts and nestled beneath the jungle of Dominica. Cottages are available with one king-sized bed or two full-sized beds.

Single and double occupancy rates available, visit www.orleansyogaandpilates.com or www.freeportyogaco.com for registration details.

Retreat cost includes:
-Airport pick-up and return transfer
-Two yoga sessions daily overlooking the Atlantic Ocean
-Double (or single) occupancy accommodation in private Jungle Cottages
-All meals (full breakfast, lunch and dinner daily) and non-alcoholic beverages
-One pampering half-hour spa treatment/massage per person/per stay
-Three off-site adventure excursions (hikes to hidden waterfalls, the world’s second largest boiling lake, marine life snorkeling, local markets, etc.)
-Several optional on-site activities such as nature hikes and Caribbean cooking classes

About your leaders:

Both lifelong athletes, devoted yogis, and moms of boys, Terry and Petra met six years ago on retreat at Kripalu and became fast friends. Over the years, they have grown and studied together as yoga teachers and supported each other through the opening of each of their respective yoga studios, Freeport Yoga Company in Freeport, Maine and Orleans Yoga on Cape Cod. These like-minded yoga soul sisters regularly teach workshops at each at other’s studios, and are faculty members of Boston Yoga School. Terry and Petra are thrilled to be leading another retreat together that personifies their love of yoga and being active in the great outdoors.

The Sanskrit word "lila" means play, and is most often associated with the play of the Divine, who creates freely, merely for the joy of it, out of spontaneous creativity, not by any need, lack or desire. This is the spirit of our Women's Caribbean Isle Adventure. Let's Unplug and Play! We all need time for ourselves with no demands.  Schedules, deadlines, responsibilities, relationships... and in the middle of winter. February is the time when many of us start feeling the "squeeze" and the need for a real break!  This retreat is that break from all the roles we entertain, and provides you with the "space" to seek and find 'the' perfect you, which is buried under that never-ending "to do" and "to be" list.  The theme of this retreat incorporates the Spirit of Play... this part of us that often "sleeps" as we carry on in our Super Woman roles.  For this reason, LUX World Travel, in concert with Jungle Bay Resort, annually offers this retreat so women of like-mind can bring a friend or come solo for a week of hiking, scuba diving, snorkeling, ocean kayaking, some spa pampering, daily yoga and optional meditation practice. The perfect atmosphere for adrenaline or relaxation... or both!  This retreat offers the tranquil rainforest surroundings, rustic ambiance, healthy meals and wellness activities, all of which make the perfect recipe for an unforgettable vacation.  This time is your own however and you are free to come and go as you please, enjoy additional spa services, or excursions, or even curl up by the pool with a book. For the adventure minded, there are many opportunities for hiking, yoga, snorkeling, scuba diving and playing in the spirit of the Wellness.

Laureen head shotLaureen and her husband, Wolfgang, return to Dominica for the 8th time (6th time hosting a retreat at Jungle Bay). They look forward to sharing with others the experience of practising the sacred art of yoga in a place of such unchanging beauty. Daily morning asana classes and several afternoon restorative classes will leave time to participate in some unforgettable excursions. (Consider joining Wolf on a breath-taking hike to the world's largest boiling volcanic lake!). Whether you are discovering the bounty of the rain forest, or sipping rum punch, overlooking the pool, take time to get to know the people of Dominica. They seem to have found some of the answers to life that the rest of us seek.Laureen began her practise of yoga in 1969 in the Caribbean!
