Improving child literacy one book at a time.

A new travel philanthropy campaign has launched in late 2009 in a partnership between Jungle Bay, the U.S. Peace Corps and Vassar College. The mission of the program is to improve literacy rates for Dominica's children.

3 Dominican Primary Schools + Jungle Bay friends and guests + 450 new books =

A new model for island tourism: connecting people around the globe through the power of great children's books.

Thanks to all who helped us to reach our 2010 goal to revive literacy among 285 rural students in Dominica's southeast!

Jungle Bay, in collaboration with primary schools in Dominica's southeast region, launched a campaign to revive literacy among 285 rural students. The campaign reached its goal in less than a year and presented local school libraries with new, hardcover texts: Caribbean folktales, foreign language superheroes, poetry, science experiments, and more! Each book donated through Open Books, Open minds-- Leave a Book Behind represents a link between distant friends and Dominica's students.
