How do we find flights to Dominica?

Question 2

Do I need a visa or passport to enter Dominica?

Accepted Answer

Visitors to Dominica normally do NOT require a visa for stays less than 21 days (in some cases longer stays are also permitted). The non-visa requirement applies for example for Nationals from Canada, USA, UK, the European Union, Switzerland, etc. A valid, up-to-date passport is required and must be presented to immigration and customs officials, along with your valid return ticket.

What currency is used in Dominica?

Accepted Answer

The official currency of Dominica is the Eastern Caribbean dollar; however, the US dollar is equally accepted (1 US dollars = approx. 2.68 EC dollars). Credit Cards may be accepted in major town centers, such as Portsmouth and Roseau, however, we recommend carrying Eastern Caribbean dollars or US dollars in small bills while traveling around the island. At Jungle Bay, we accept all major credit cards as well as cash in the form of US, EC or Euros.

What is the weather like and the average temperature in Dominica?

Accepted Answer

Dominica is a year-round travel destination and visitors should expect plenty of sunshine interjected by intermittent rainfall at any time of the year (do pack a light raincoat for the hikes). The drier season can be considered from December to the end of May and there is normally an increase in rainfall during the months of August to October, however temperatures remain fairly steady. The island's annual temperature averages at around 27-30° Celsius / 80-86° Fahrenheit. It is also good to know that the rainfall often happens during the night or early in the morning. Most of the time, the rainfalls are quite heavy, but also short and it clears up quickly.

Question 6

Do you have an on-site restaurant? How far away are other restaurants?

Our full-service restaurant and bar are located a short walk from the villas. We offer a range of vegan, vegetarian, fresh fish and seafood as well as chicken dishes along with organic local produce to create delicious Caribbean fare.
Our restaurant/bar operating hours are: Breakfast: 7:00am-10:00am ~ Lunch: 12:00pm-2:30pm ~ Dinner: 6:00pm-9:00pm Certain snacks and drinks are available throughout the day from 7:00am until 9:00pm.
Our Upper Restaraunt is open on occasion.
Other eateries are located between 10 minutes away in the villge of Scotts Head or 20 minutes away in the captial of Roseau. There are a few small food kiosks in the nearby villages also but hours and availability of food may not be consistent.

Question 8

We are interested in scuba diving. Is this available?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Jungle Bay is only a 5-minute-drive from the Nature Island dive shop and almost 20 dive sites are less than 15 boat minutes from there. In cooperation with Nature Island, we offer special dive packages for certified divers (remember to bring your dive certification card), as well as First-Time Scuba Dive Experiences. What is your cancellation policy?

Jungle Bay Cancellation Policy & Terms of Use
 
By making a reservation you agree to the terms of use and authorize Jungle Bay Dominica (AyAy Holdings Caribbean Ltd) to charge your credit card in order to secure your reservation.
 
Payments 
For bookings of 3 nights or more, a deposit equal to 35% is required to guarantee your stay. The full balance is due during your stay.
 
For bookings of up to 2 nights, full pre-payment is required to guarantee your stay.
 
Payment is accepted via Visa and Mastercard.
  
Cancellations
For cancellations made 14* days or more prior to the stay, the deposit may be applied towards a future stay within a 12-month period. If a refund is requested then it will be subject to a 10% credit card processing fee to cover hard costs incurred by the hotel.
 
If a booking is cancelled less than 14* days prior to arrival, the deposit will be forfeited.
 
* Special conditions apply for peak seasons:
If a booking is cancelled less than 30 days prior to arrival for stays from December 19 to January 4, Easter, or during the Creole Festival end of October/beginning of November, the total amount of the stay booked will be due.
 
In the event of a no-show or booking reduction (on or after arrival date), the total amount of the stay booked will be charged.
  
NOTE: Group reservation terms and conditions vary. Payments for groups will be via electronic bank transfer.

Do you have villas with more than one bed?

Question 11

We have other friends or family members who want to stay in a villa near ours, is that possible?

Accepted Answer

We do have villas that are close to each other as well as interconnecting villa rooms, so please let us know at the time of booking what other bookings are part of your group, so that we can situate you close to one another.

Question 12

What are check-in and check-out times at Jungle Bay?

Accepted Answer

Upon availability, we will do our best to have the villa ready upon your arrival time, so please let us know your arrival details. Typically, the villas are ready after 3.00 pm and check out is usually by 11.00 am. We will also be happy to store your luggage before check-in after check-out and you can use the facilities.

Question 13

I am a beginner at yoga; will I be ok taking part in the scheduled yoga classes?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our yoga classes are beginner’s level yet our instructor will share modifications for intermediate students. Note that classes are 60 minutes and are scheduled 5 to 7 days a week (either in the mornings or evenings). Yoga styles are Hatha, Vinyasa, Restorative and Yin.

Is there anything in particular that we should remember to pack?

Accepted Answer

We recommend packing the following items in your carry-on luggage in the event your luggage is delayed: comfortable walking shoes and a change of clothing, swimsuit, any personal medications, contact lenses/solution (3 oz. max.), as well as toiletry. Remember the 3 oz. rule for carrying liquids and gels on commercial airplanes. Beach towels are provided by Jungle Bay as well as snorkeling equipment for our snorkeling & kayak tours.

Are there mosquitoes or other bugs at Jungle Bay?

Accepted Answer

We are on the southwest coast of Dominica with a slight breeze, which fortunately keeps our property cool and greatly reduces the bugs and mosquitoes. However, your villa features mosquito nets above each bed as an option. If needed, come to the Jungle Bay gift shop, which carries a locally made, natural bay leaf mosquito repellent.

How fast is your WiFi / Internet connection?

Accepted Answer

Jungle Bay offers guests enhanced Wi-Fi as fast as 60 Mbps which is more than sufficient to conduct video conferencing, streaming hi-res videos, and downloading large files.
This enhanced internet is complimentary to guests.

Question 17

How do I dress for dinner? Is there a dress code for the restaurant?

Accepted Answer

Dress at Jungle Bay's Restaurant is island casual with everyone generally keeping to comfortable clothing. Ladies will not want to wear high heels as the trails are a bit uneven.

Can we swim at Jungle Bay? What is the beach like?

Accepted Answer

Our Jungle Bay infinity swimming pools allows for swimming and relaxation. We offer several tours with opportunities to swim in the Caribbean Sea and visit beaches such as in Scott’s Head (8 min. drive) and Champagne Beach (15 min. drive) or local waterfalls. Most beaches in Dominica are stone or natural black sand beaches however you are not likely going to plan lay on the beach days given that most people come to the island for an active vacation.

The activity I am interested in is not offered on the day I am there. Do you accept special requests?

Accepted Answer

Our Adventure Wellness Package includes the activities as scheduled. We are happy to help arrange a specific tour (please keep in mind that custom tours are subject to availability and may be subject to a premium). Please let us know if there is something you don’t want to miss and we will do our best to set something up for you. You can inquire in advance via email info@junglebaydominica.com or during your stay with us.

Question 20

Are tour guides necessary for all of the hikes?

Accepted Answer

Although some trails such as the short walks near Jungle Bay are self-guided, we do highly recommend touring with a guide for other trails. The guides are local and very familiar with the terrain, the flora and fauna and possible danger points. Many of the trails in Dominica are not well marked nor well-trodden. Our guides are certified and highly knowledgeable and can enhance your hiking experience. If you do decide to head out on your own, we would be happy to give you advice on whether or not a guide is required for a specific trail.

If I am interested in some of the lengthier hikes, what type of shoes should I bring?

Accepted Answer

We recommend wearing light, breathable shoes for our tropical climate such as trekking, running shoes, comfortable “amphibian” water shoes or hiking sandals with straps (e.g. Keen, Teva). Your shoes may get wet on some of the hikes; we therefore suggest bringing at least 2 pairs of shoes you are comfortable hiking in. Also note that shoes need to have good grip as paths and rocks can be slippery.

How difficult are the hiking trails in Dominica?

Most of our hikes are suitable for persons who are regular hikers and can cross rivers, maneuver hilly paths and sometimes slippery terrain. However, there are also walks and activities for people who wish to take part in easier tours and visits. Please ask your guide or guest service staff for guidance. Question 23

Do we need to reserve spa treatments and tours prior to arrival if we booked only the accommodation plan?

Accepted Answer

Activities and spa treatments are subject to availability for guests on the accommodation-only plan. Please coordinate with our reception upon arrival or at any point during your stay. Note that you will need to sign up for next day’s scheduled tours and activities by 5pm. The costs for the tours/activities and spa treatments are indicated on our Activity Schedule & Spa menu and are inclusive of 15% VAT.

Question 24

Do we need to reserve spa treatments and tours prior to arrival if we booked the inclusive Adventure Wellness Package?

Accepted Answer

On the Adventure Wellness Package all activities on our Activity Schedule are included, however please note that you do need to sign-up for next day’s tours and activities by 5pm the day prior. You may email us in advance, we will assist with coordinating your daily activities and daily Spa treatments at the reception or you can dial 308 from your villa (10am to 8pm).

Question 25

What is it like to drive in Dominica? Can I rent a car?

Accepted Answer

You can rent a vehicle, however, keep in mind that we drive on the left side and our roads are narrow and winding. Also, note that signage is limited in places, so it may take a bit of adjustment for you to get used to driving on our roads. You will need to arrange for a temporary driver’s license with the rental car company.

How far is Jungle Bay from the capital of Roseau?

Accepted Answer

Roseau is located 10km / 6.2 miles from Jungle Bay and each way takes about 20 minutes depending on traffic.

Minimum $30 USD each way for 1 person. For 2 persons or more the rate is  $20 USD per person per way.

Question 27

If I book accommodations only, can transfers be organized for us?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The cost is approx. US $125 for 1 person per way and US $65 per person for 2 persons per way. For a 3rd or 4th person, it is + US $40 per way. Prices are subject to 15% VAT.

Question 28

We are booking the Adventure Wellness Package. Is transportation to and from the airport included?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with a minimum of 3 nights booked on the Adventure Wellness Package, transfers are included.

Question 29

How far is Jungle Bay from the airport?

Accepted Answer

Most flights are via Douglas Charles Airport (DOM), located on the northeast of the island, which is approximately 1 hour and 20 min. drive from Jungle Bay.

Question 30

How do tips work at Jungle Bay?

Accepted Answer

At Jungle Bay we encourage “pool tipping” which is divided evenly among all staff to encourage team spirit. We are also proud that our staff have decided to contribute 10% of their tips to our Community Fund to support various charities in the community. Our secure tip box is located at the front desk if you pay cash. Alternatively, you may put an amount on your credit card at the time of checkout.
If you wish to tip an exceptional tour guide/staff/spa attendant, you may do so in cash directly to the individual.
USD or EC is suitable and the amount you choose is at your discretion.

Question 31

Is laundry service available at Jungle Bay?

Accepted Answer

Laundry service (wash and fold) is available at the rate of USD $25.00 + 15%VAT per load. You place your dirty clothes in a bag (available from the Front Desk) & fill out a short request form. Your clothes will then be returned within 24 hours.

What is the cost of "Departure Tax"?

When leaving via ferry or boat (example L'Express des Ilses and Val Ferry), travelers must pay Departure Tax at the port.
Adults 12 years and older each pay $33 US Dollars / 86 EC Dollars / Approx 35 Euros (Euro bills only/ no small change)
Children BELOW 12 years each pay $10 US Dollars / $27 EC Dollars / Approx 11 Euros
PAYABALE VIA CASH ONLY no credit cards will be accepted.
When leaving via air, typically the tax is included in the price of your airfare ticket.

Do you offer a day pass?

Our Day Passes cost $60US/$160 XCD per person 16yrs and older and run from 10 am to 5 pm (no children below 16yrs allowed on day passes).  The Day Pass Package includes lunch (a set one course meal with a choice of fish, chicken or vegetarian*) with a glass of fresh local juice, access to our Jungle Bay swimming pool, recreational center, and Wi-Fi.*Note that there is a supplement for a few selected items like shrimps, lobster, dessert, etc.  Day passes are available upon pre-reservation only and are based on availability (NOT AVAILABLE EVERY DAY).
